    Take a look at: http://lussumo.com/addons/ and review the list of addons. Which should we use? I find these interesting:

    Notify - email users with forum updates.
    Blog - turn a category into a blog. I'm not sure how much it would be used. I've never gotten into blogging.

    I have installed: RSS, Atom, Notify, Preview, Mod Tools, Discussion Filters. I have also made the categories page the default, but that was through .htaccess rather than an extension.

    I've looked at the extensions molfar suggested, and of those not yet installed I have the following opinion:

    required:
    * contact form
    * reserved names
    * report post
    * ajaxquote (or any other quote extension)
    * Text Mode Switch (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=76 - added by me) - To disable all markup
    * Application Email Verification (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=135 - added by me) - Better than captcha

    recommended:
    * attachements addon
    * account pictures
    * MarkAllRead (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=51 - added by me) - To mark all posts as read instead of having to visit them all.

    optional:
    * tinymce editor (or any wysiwyg editor, like FCKeditor http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=178 )
    * poll
    * Code prettify (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=279 - added by me)
    * Multi File Upload (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=239 - added by me)
    * Add Comments (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=1 - added by me) - Add comments and login at the same time.

    I have installed AjaxQuote, Applicant Email Verification, Contact Form, Mark All Read, Report Post, Reserved Names, Text Mode Switch from the list. I have also installed Panel Lists and Quick Keys. The others I will go through and examine.

    Am I wrong or you actually installed HTML formatter addon? http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=33
    Just curious.

    I would also like to ban BBCode-usage in this forum for as long as possible, however I understand that it might be unavoidable after all.

    One more thing - about a quote addon. It seem you installed "QuoteText 1.0 by Jazzman". How about trying this one insted? (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=16) It seem ti be more advanced, no?
    If it isn't - we can always fall back to the original one.

    Yes, I installed that one.

    I have swapped out the other one in favour of this. It seems to work...

    Report Post doesn't seem to work. I tried it on the second post in the "test" topic, but I didn't see any change.

    And then comes the question, should a new topic be started for every issue in these extensions, to keep this topic "clean" or not.

    Posted By: MohjiveReport Post doesn't seem to work.

    Then, I presume - there is no need in it for now. I think the moderation will be sufficient as it is, at least until the community grows significantly.

    2 Michael:
    I'd also suggest this addon - Quote Depth 0.1.0 (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=224)
    And it might be reasonable to set it to 1 to prevent those pyramids from happening))

    Ah. No, that's actually a configuration error. Nobody was configured as able to receive the reports. Moderators and developers are now able to if they want. You have to enable it in your forum preferences, and then... let me try it, I don't know what will happen. Ok: it emails you with a notification that somebody has reported a post.

    I wonder if it's possible to change "Report Post" text to all small letters - just to provide consistency?

    Yes, it would seem that it is. Done.

    Please, people, just trust me that it works; there's no need to report multiple posts over and over just to test it out and send out emails to everybody.

    Another extension that would be useful:

    Comment Links (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=256) - Display a number with every comment which acts as a direct link to the comment.

    I'd like to inquire if we decided anything on the use of WYSIWYG toolbar to format text in posts. TinyMCE or FCKeditor anyone?
    Personally, I think we can certainly leave it as it is, but if it provides for something really useful - why not?
    I'd vote for any of them that provides for modularity - i.e. having the option to choose only those buttons on the toolbar that are really needed and scrape the others. Can we do that?
    To my view - the necessary buttons are: bold, italic, underscore, strikethrough, ordered/unordered lists, hyperlinks, blockquote (obvious), code (for unhindered program code insertion).
    Maybe Quicktags addon (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=64) will do the job?
    Some other (bonus option) buttons to consider - justification, text size/color, background color, image insert, insert special character.

    Installed Comment Links. Also applied three patches Jonas sent.

    I don't know about a WYSIWYG editor, but if somebody with experience would like to recommend one that works well we can install it.

    Let's try TinyMCE first - (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=179)

    If you encounter any difficulties - FCKeditor is another choice -
    (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=178)

    Please, if there is a possibility to customize the toolbar (the buttons we see) - don't put them all - we need only the small amount (I've already suggested the required ones earlier in post#20)

    btw, I think having "word clouds" addon is an overkill for this forum and is not needed.

    I agree to the point that if we have a wysiwyg toolbar, only minimal controls should be used. However, I don't think we need one.

    And word cloud is overkill :)
    I don't think statistics is needed either.

    I think we have enough extensions for the moment and should only look for *needed* extensions now. Perhaps even removing/disabling some. Try to keep things simple and clean.

    Yeah, I've disabled them both - they're not a lot of use at this point, since most of the words in the cloud come out of this one discussion and there's only half a dozen total. Maybe later.

    I don't really think that a wysiwyg editor is needed; it doesn't really achieve anything unless you're doing exceptionally complex formatting (or even then). Most comments are just plain text anyway. If it turns out people really do want it (and speak up!) then TinyMCE looks like the best place to start, from reading the code.

    Well, you're right, but maybe not everybody wants to repeatedly type the same commands in. That's just a matter of laziness, you know, but hey, I'm so lazy :p

    P.S.: [ot]about the current theme, what do you think about coloring alternate posts differently? One blue, one gray, one blue, one gray...I say blue 'cause I like it (and that shocking blank is burning my eyes).[/ot]

    If someone wants to make up a new style, by all means go ahead, and we can try it out. It might be nice if the forum better matched the website (it isn't too out of place now, but it could improve). CSS has nice pseudoclasses these days for doing exactly that.

    Only if it's applied to the profile page only. For icons in comments, this is enough imo.

    One extension I think is usable, that we should use, is the Low-Cal Vanilla extension (http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=315). It adds compression on the page sent to the browser, increasing download speed.
