Using the default options except for the "Linux 2.6" option, init stops at this point:

VFS: Cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unknown-block(3,1)
    Please append a correct "root=" boot option; . . .
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,1)

Hmm =) This was an attempt to run the liveCD by attaching the ISO as a cd-rom drive. Any suggestions?

Like the title suggests this is the place to discuss your experience of running GoboLinux under different virtual environments.

I'll start with several most recent observations concerning the latest 014 snapshot (GoboLinux-014pre20071122):
    Host: Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 AMD64

    1. kvm 1:28-4ubuntu2
If you have a realtime kernel on host - LiveCD starts only if kvm is supplied with a -no-acpi parameter (with generic kernel it does start without this parameter but in a kind of random fashion, so it's better to provide it anyway). However, while installation on virtual HDD proceeds quite normally, Gobo fails to boot from it anyway.

    2. qemu 0.9.0-2ubuntu4 (without accelerator module)
The same situation as with kvm above. It starts the LiveCD, installs, but fails to boot afterwards. Since I had difficulties using kqemu-accelerator module, I am not certain how will it behave with the module enabled.
One more thing - if SMP is emulated Gobo fails to start...

    3. VirtualBox 1.5.2 (proprietary/OSE)
Gobo fails to start off the LiveCD. Lots of SquashFS errors and subsequent kernel panic as described by random above.

P.S. Sorry for comments sequence confusion. To put it clear - random posted about Gobo being unusable in VirtualBox 1.5.2 OSE and I later modded the topic a bit.

I'm back with a little update.
First, it seems that in case with KVM and QEMU the GRUB is to blame. Once I installed Gobo and then rebooted again from LiveCD I was able to install GRUB manually as described in Step 5 here. Afterwards, QEMU booted up (with some udevd errors about failed dilesystem mounting - needs further investigation), but KVM still failed, this time, however, with a crash (exception 13, core dumped.. etc. - seems to be something with KVM). Anyway, it seems that GRUB is the culprit in this situation - IMHO, there must be some glitch in Gobo Installer that prevents GRUB from being installed correctly.

I ran GoboLinux-014.01-i686.iso on VMWare GSX and it ran very fast and snappy compared to other Linux distributions that I've tried. The only issue was that the sound card configuration wasn't recognized. Still, I'll try to do a physical install on an old box that I have laying around.
